Today, the SigEp Patriots Project (SPP) honors the life, service & ultimate sacrifice made for our freedoms by Lawrence Talley. Based on research to-date by SPP, Larry was the 36th brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity killed in action during the Vietnam War.
1969
– Vietnam War Veteran & North Carolina Beta Brother Warrant Officer One Lawrence “Larry” Talley, U.S. Army Reserve, 22, was killed in action while a helicopter pilot serving as a gunner aboard his AH-1G (Cobra) when it came under hostile ground fire west of Hawk Hill (Hill 29) in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. Larry was serving with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 23rd Infantry Division (Americal), I Corps based in Chu Lai, Vietnam, and had been in country 41 days when he was killed. His awards include the Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Larry is remembered on Panel 20W, Row 127 on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial – The Wall – in Washington, DC.

Since honoring him last year, SPP has learned of five brothers killed in action prior to Larry during Vietnam. We will continue our work until we are able to show respect to all of our brothers who patriotically serve/served in a branch of the U.S. military.
